Cincinnati Reds first baseman Sal Stewart has had an incredible year so far. He is fourth in the MLB with 70 RBI’s and was one of four rookies invited to the MLB All-Star Game.

But when asked about what is most important in his life, he always points back to God.

“Jesus blessed me. I’m 22 playing at Yankee Stadium. My family is in the stands. I mean, Jesus is the greatest,” he declared.

In an interview after he hit several home runs in one game, Stewart once again shared about his faith in Christ.

“Jesus Christ, He’s my Lord and Savior,” the first baseman told MLB Network in April. “He’s changed my life so much. When I was younger, I always said [that] trying to get to the big leagues was always my dream. But my dream now is just to glorify His name. Without Him, I’m nothing and I can’t do this. He gives me all the strength to do this.”

Stewart was drafted in the first round in 2022. He shared a video on Instagram, surrounded by his family and friends, of his name being called on draft night.

“I have to start off by thanking my lord and savior, Jesus Christ; without him nothing is possible in my life!” Stewart wrote in the caption of the post. “I also want to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey and supported me through this process it really means a lot! Thank you to my coaches, friends, teammates and people who want what’s best for me! Thank you to my cousins, uncles, and aunts for their nonstop support.”

He also took time to thank his family.

“Lastly, THANK YOU to my family. I LOVE YOU GUYS❤️❤️❤️ WE DID IT!! It’s very hard not to get emotional when thinking about this opportunity, but I know how much you guys have sacrificed for me and it never goes unnoticed!” he continued. “To the Reds community, you are getting my all. I promise to give everything I have and push to help my team win in any way I can! Let’s do it!!”

Through every milestone of his breakout MLB career, Stewart has consistently grounded his success on the field by attributing his achievements to his faith, family and deep sense of gratitude.
