Hannah Harper, the reigning champion of AMERICAN IDOL’s 24th season, is saddling up for another release.
“Saddle up, y’all… ‘Hold Your Horses’ is coming real soon,” Harper wrote on Instagram, teasing the Sept. 4 arrival of her next single alongside a snippet of its music video.
The clip, according to TV Insider, shows Harper’s husband, Devon Mendenhall, walking toward her before taking her hand and twirling her around. It’s a callback to the video for her finale song, “Married Into This Town,” which also featured Mendenhall and which Harper released as a full studio version earlier this year.
Movieguide® readers have followed Harper’s rise since she became the first female country artist to win AMERICAN IDOL since Carrie Underwood took the title in 2005. Her audition song, “String Cheese,” wove her own struggle with postpartum depression into a testimony about finding steadiness through faith and motherhood, and she closed out her finale performance with Chris Tomlin’s “At the Cross (Love Ran Red)” — not exactly a subtle nod toward where she credits her staying power.
That staying power is being tested. Harper is touring with her family band through the fall even as she keeps release after release coming, and she’s made no secret that the juggling act is real.

“17 missed calls, 130 unread emails, 50 messages. Me:,” she captioned one recent Instagram video before cutting to footage of her snuggled up with one of her three young sons.
“Sorry I cannot hear you I’m kinda busy,” she added.
It’s a small joke, but it points at something Harper has been consistent about since her IDOL run ended: the fame and the phone notifications are not what she’s building her life around. Her tour bus, unveiled earlier this summer, was outfitted specifically so her kids could travel with her, and she and Mendenhall have kept their three boys part of the story rather than tucked away from it.
“I’m going to try to keep the fire going as long as I can,” Harper told TV Insider of her post-IDOL momentum, and “Hold Your Horses” is the latest evidence she means it. She’s also leaned on what the competition itself taught her about her own voice, in more ways than one.
“I walked into the competition feeling small and towards the end I stood taller, not because of my ability necessarily, but knowing that there’s a crowd of people who want to hear what I have to say,” Harper said. “That’s a great feeling.”
For a young mother who spent years singing bluegrass with her family band before life on a national stage ever entered the picture, that shift from small to standing taller isn’t just a talent-show arc. It’s the same story she’s been telling since “String Cheese” — that showing up honestly, kids and all, tends to connect more than any polished version of herself would.
Whether “Hold Your Horses” leans into the romance of its video teaser or turns out to carry the same faith-and-family undercurrent as her earlier work, Harper has given her audience little reason to doubt where her priorities sit. Families who’ve been rooting for her since her viral audition will likely find plenty to like when the song drops Sept. 4.
