Could another HOME ALONE movie be in the works?
“I got a tip the other day that there was a very interesting sighting on the Disney lot,” entertainment journalist Matthew Belloni recently revealed. “Macaulay Culkin was there, and he’s talked about an idea for a new HOME ALONE and Disney is salivating.”
He said the studio has “a good idea” for a new movie, adding, “I’ve talked to people who’ve heard it and it’s a really good idea for a HOME ALONE reboot with Macaulay Culkin.”
The first HOME ALONE premiered in 1990, making a star out of a young Culkin. He would go on to star in HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK but would not return for follow-ups HOME ALONE 3, HOME ALONE 4: TAKING BACK THE HOUSE, HOME ALONE: THE HOLIDAY HEIST and HOME SWEET HOME ALONE.
While this upcoming movie hasn’t been confirmed yet, Culkin previously discussed what a sequel for his character might look like.
“I kind of had this idea,” the actor said at a 2025 event. “I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out. [Kevin’s son] won’t let me in…and he’s the one setting traps for me.”
The actor added, “The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship,” with his character needing to “‘get let back into son’s heart’ kind of deal.”
“That’s the closest elevator pitch that I have,” Culkin finished. “I’m not completely allergic to it, the right thing.”
Even if there isn’t an upcoming sequel, like many of us, Culkin is satisfied with just watching the original HOME ALONE.
“I show that movie to my kids all the time,” he told Deadline in 2025. “Man, they have no idea who they’re sitting next to, the entire time. They just go, ‘Oh, there’s Kevin.’ They call him Kevin Disney, because of Disney+, which shows the little holiday trailer.”
Culkin shared, “I don’t have a lot of albums lying around, but I was able to dig one up, and he immediately gravitates towards the bottom left corner. And he goes, ‘Hey, that kid looks like Kevin. Who is that?’ I go, that’s me. And he didn’t put it together. And I’m like, ‘Good.’ No, no, not yet. Not that. He just thinks I looked a lot like Kevin.”
Fans will have to wait to see if Culkin ever returns as Kevin McCallister.
