While spending time in Brazil, former New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson took time to remind his followers about the “ultimate risk” Jesus took for all of us.
“I was walking on the beach this morning, early, super, super early, and I saw this sign, ‘Alto Risco,’ which means ‘high risk.’ And I think about the waves, and I think about everything that we go through in life — the highs, the lows, the moments — and being here in Brazil has been an amazing, amazing time,” Wilson explained in a video on Instagram.
“And I’m thinking about what high risk really means. High risk is high reward, and I know the struggle you’ve been going through, things that we’ve all been going through — the mental stuff, the troubles, the fears, the worries, the concerns — God already paid the price,” he continued. “He took the ultimate risk. Jesus took the ultimate risk.”
Wilson was getting ready to go visit the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil when he started to think deeply about his faith.
“I’m about to go to Christ the Redeemer here this morning, and I was thinking about the ultimate risk that He sacrificed for us all to keep going, to keep believing. Keep loving, forgive big, love big, dream big, because God already took the ultimate highest risk,” he encouraged.
On June 3, Wilson retired from the NFL. Football meant everything to him.
“You’ve been my joy, my peace, my safe place. You taught me discipline, faith and resilience. How to keep believing no matter the circumstances,” Wilson said. “You’ve given me purpose and opportunity. Opportunity to inspire others and create change to continue to evolve the game. Not just for me, but for the next generation of ballers. You’ve also given me the greatest gift of all, family.”

Even during his final season with the New York Giants last year, he prioritized his faith.
“We have a lot of guys who are super strong on their faith,” Wilson told Fox News Digital. “We do have our Bible studies throughout the week and the things we do as a collective group. I know every team does different things, and we have a lot of that too. And we’re just grateful we do what we get to do. I’m grateful to be a New York Giant, and I thank God every day for that.”
Now, Wilson will pursue a career in sports broadcasting with CBS Sports.
“As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports in the NFL today, I’m so blessed to continue doing what I love most — being around the greatest game in the world,” he shared.
According to the NFL Network, Wilson had an offer to be a team’s backup quarterback for the 2026 season, but he politely declined.
While Wilson might be taking a new risk jumping into a broadcast career, he knows that Christ took the ultimate risk for him.
