Sadie Robertson Huff is getting candid about the choices she and her husband made before they walked down the aisle.
“God’s plan is purity and God’s plan is one-man and one-woman for marriage. And I will say, that wasn’t what our past looked like,” Robertson Huff said on a recent episode of her podcast, “WHOA That’s Good.”
The July 22 episode revisited a clip from 2021, when Robertson Huff and her husband, Christian Huff, looked back on the boundaries they set for themselves before marriage. Robertson Huff, 29, best known for her years on DUCK DYNASTY, didn’t pretend the decision came naturally or all at once.
“I guess there’s a lot of different boundaries, but physically speaking, we didn’t say like we’re not going to do this,” she explained. What she and Huff settled on instead was a shared destination rather than a checklist of rules.
“We both wanted God’s plan. We wanted to pursue that. And so together we made a decision, ‘Hey, we’re going to do that,'” she said.
Robertson Huff has described the choice in similar terms elsewhere. “We’re pursuing God’s plan for our life and for our relationship. And God’s plan is purity,” she told E! News, pointing to the couple’s shared faith rather than sheer willpower as what kept them accountable.

The two dated for nine months before Huff proposed during a family celebration on the Robertsons’ Louisiana property. They married in November 2019 in a ceremony on her family’s farm, with more than 600 guests looking on. Today they’re raising three daughters — Honey James, Haven Belle and Kit Carroway, born in 2021, 2023 and August 2025.
Movieguide® has followed Robertson Huff’s public walk of faith for years, from her early role in the faith-based movie I’M NOT ASHAMED to her turn in GOD’S NOT DEAD 2. More recently, she and Huff talked with Movieguide® about keeping “high standards” in dating — not about being picky, she said, but about caring more about character than chemistry.
“It’s not so much about being picky…but I do have high standards in the things that matter,” she said in that earlier conversation. Huff put it more bluntly in the same interview.
“If you’re not practicing what you’re preaching, I don’t care how pretty the person is…if those core things on just being authentic aren’t real, then your relationship’s not going to be strong,” he said.
That consistency, between what the Huffs say and how they’ve actually lived, is what makes this latest conversation worth paying attention to. Plenty of celebrities gesture at faith in general terms. Fewer are willing to describe, on a podcast with a real audience, the specific and occasionally awkward conversations that faith actually required of them before marriage.
For Christian families navigating similar questions with their own kids, Robertson Huff’s honesty offers something more useful than a rulebook. It’s a real couple admitting the boundaries weren’t always neat and that pursuing purity was a decision they kept making together, not a line they drew once and forgot about.
