GAME CHANGER
Faith overcomes pride in a funny, heartwarming sports comedy.
Should You Watch It?
GAME CHANGER is a funny, heartwarming story about pride, responsibility, teamwork, humility, and faith. Its main characters receive meaningful depth, and the movie openly preaches the Gospel while encouraging its protagonist to return to faith in Christ during difficult circumstances.
The film’s low-budget production quality and occasional melodramatic moments keep it from being stronger, but its heartfelt themes carry real weight. Families will also find very little objectionable content beyond light slapstick violence and potty humor, along with a patriotic account of a Marine’s sacrifice.
If you want an all-ages movie with a clear Christian and moral message, GAME CHANGER is worth the trip.
The Story
NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISESJordan Gabriel appears to have everything: a football career, a mansion, lavish parties, and a fast sports car. But after he is caught speeding in a street race, a judge orders him to perform community service as a middle school baseball coach.
Jordan’s first game goes badly, and the judge gives him a difficult assignment: help his team win the championship or face jail time. Along the way, Jordan must confront his pride, take responsibility, and put his priorities in order.
Is It Any Good?
Three stars means GAME CHANGER is a good, enjoyable film with some weaknesses. The cast brings varying layers of talent, and the characters receive solid depth in their development. The movie is funny and heartwarming, with heartfelt themes that help viewers overlook its low-budget production quality and melodramatic moments.
The film also includes some excellent drone shots. Its strongest achievement is the way it combines sports, humor, and moral growth into an encouraging story.
The Worldview
GAME CHANGER presents a very strong Christian, moral worldview. It portrays pride, vanity, and selfishness as wrong while affirming teamwork, humility, forgiveness, reconciliation, prayer, and faith in Christ. The Gospel is preached, a girl prays in Jesus’s name, and the film stresses the power of miracles and reconciliation.
The story encourages its protagonist to return to faith in Christ as he faces trials. It also presents a resolved outlook that followers of Jesus go to Heaven. A boy wears a cross around his neck, and a widow recounts her late husband’s patriotic sacrifice for his country.
The film’s central lesson is that pride must give way to humility. As Jesus says, “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted” (Matthew 23:12, NIV).
