What You Need To Know

80 FOR BRADY is a comedy about four senior ladies who decide they want to go to the 2017 Super Bowl between Quarterback Tom Brady’s New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons in Houston, but complications ensue when they lose their tickets, and the Patriots are down 28 to 3 in the third quarter. Inspired by a true story, 80 FOR BRADY has some surprising, funny twists and heartwarming moments, but it also has many light profanities, one “f” word and some innuendoes.

The movie opens with the four older gals, Betty, Louella, Trish, and Maura getting ready to watch the 2017 AFC Championship game between the Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The movie quickly reveals that the ladies have a superstitious ritual for their hero, Tom Brady, and the Patriots ever since Brady won his first Super Bowl in 2001 after he took over for injured star quarterback Drew Bledsoe. The ritual involves Betty getting up on a ladder to change a lightbulb and Louella spilling the bowl of potato chips on the living room table. Before the game, the ladies hurry up to perform the ritual. Sure enough, the Patriots beat the Steelers and are headed to Houston to play the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl.

The ladies are all set to watch the game two weeks later at Louella’s place when they hear that a local sports radio program is having a contest for four Super Bowl tickets and a hotel room. All they have to do is tell the best story about how much they love Tom Brady and the Patriots. The four women each write their own stories. Also, Maura gets her friends at the retirement home to pose as them and come up with their own best stories.

A week or so later, Louella tells the girls that she won the four tickets. So, the four friends are on their way to Houston on Super Bowl weekend. In Houston, however, complications ensue when Betty, the most responsible person in the group, accidentally misplaces the tickets. Then, things look bleak when the Falcons get off to a 28 to 3 head start.

Inspired by a true story, 80 FOR BRADY has some surprising, funny twists and heartwarming moments. It turns out that her friends and their passion for Tom Brady got Louella through a cancer scare when Brady started his winning streak. Recently, Louella took some new tests, but has been afraid to open the results letter she received from her doctor. She also hasn’t returned her doctor’s calls about the results. That’s why, when she heard about the contest, she encouraged her friends to put in an entry. She figured that, if this was going to be their last hurrah, then a trip to the Super Bowl to watch Tom Brady in person would be an experience of a lifetime.

Thus, the friendship between the ladies and Brady’s refusal to give up have seen them all through some tough times, including the recent death of Maura’s beloved husband. These positive themes are marred by some light innuendoes and pagan superstition, one “f” word and other obscenities, a scene about ingesting some marijuana candy, and too many light profanities, at least 31. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for 80 FOR BRADY.
