Should You Watch It?

LITTLE BIG LEAGUE is good summer fun with a warm heart. Its excellent acting and tremendously authentic baseball action make the film entertaining, while its central lesson is simple and valuable: baseball should be played for fun, not merely for money.

The film does include foul language and brief sexual innuendo, and those elements are condemned within the story. A boy is reprimanded for watching a porn movie and promises not to watch again. The content keeps this from being an unquestioned choice for every family, especially families with younger children.

For adults, teenagers, and families with middle schoolers and older, this is worth watching if you can exercise discernment about the content.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

When 12-year-old Billy Heywood's grandfather dies unexpectedly, Billy inherits full ownership of the Minnesota Twins baseball team. His friends think the situation is awesome, but Billy soon discovers that owning a major league team brings responsibilities far beyond the excitement of seeing his grandfather's name on it.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this is an especially successful family comedy. LITTLE BIG LEAGUE features excellent acting performances and tremendously authentic baseball action, giving its summer story both warmth and credibility.

The film is heart-warming and hilarious, with a positive effect on both Billy and the “grown-up” big-leaguers around him. Its objectionable content keeps it from being completely clean, but the source review finds that the good far outweighs the bad.

The Worldview

LITTLE BIG LEAGUE presents a wholesome, moral worldview, though it contains no reference to God. It exalts family as more important than wealth and treats baseball as something meant to be played for fun rather than merely for money.

The film also condemns its objectionable content. Billy is reprimanded for watching a porn movie and promises not to watch again. The story’s moral center is found in Billy’s honest lessons and in the way his joy helps the players rediscover why they play.

That emphasis on where we place value aligns with Jesus’ teaching: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).
