Should You Watch It?

I AM POTENTIAL is a beautiful, heartfelt true story about love, dedication, faith, and God-given potential. Patrick Henry Hughes is blind and confined to a wheelchair, but his family learns to recognize and encourage the musical talents God has given him.

The story includes painful family struggles. Patrick Henry’s mother carries much of the responsibility while his father withdraws into work and other activities. Yet prayer, faith, and a father’s changed priorities bring healing and draw the family closer to one another and to God.

The strong Christian message makes the sadness worthwhile, while the loving family story gives viewers hope. The practical answer is simple: watch I AM POTENTIAL with your whole family.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Based on the true story of Patrick Henry Hughes, this drama follows a boy born blind with a form of dwarfism that shortens his joints. His mother works tirelessly to care for him, while his father struggles to face the future he imagined for his son.

One night, Patrick Henry’s father discovers his son’s love for music. That discovery opens a new path as Patrick Henry develops his God-given talents and the family learns what it means to help him reach his full potential.

Is It Any Good?

Three stars means I AM POTENTIAL is a solid, heartfelt film with an inspiring message. The movie is well done, and the strong cast works well together.

It also portrays Patrick Henry’s life in a thorough and complete way while showing Christ’s light through both good and difficult times. The story is often sad, but its emotional honesty and uplifting Christian message make it worthwhile viewing for the whole family.

The Worldview

I AM POTENTIAL presents a very strong Christian, biblical worldview. Family members pray over troubling situations, and faith helps sustain them through painful circumstances. The film also includes redemptive elements as Patrick Henry’s father learns to put his family and disabled son ahead of a job promotion.

The movie exalts parental devotion, perseverance, prayer, and the responsibility to help a child use his God-given talents. It shows a family facing difficult situations without giving up on one another. Friends and family also come together to help Patrick Henry accomplish his goals.

At the center is the conviction that a person’s physical limitations do not determine his God-given worth or potential. That emphasis aligns with Scripture’s reminder: “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14).
