Should You Watch It?

LINSANITY tells an absorbing story of hard work, disappointment, discrimination, perseverance, and faith. Jeremy Lin explains how trusting God and letting God work through him shaped his journey from childhood basketball dreams to international attention with the New York Knicks.

The film is a little slow in places, but its Christian lessons give the story lasting value. It shows that pursuing a dream can involve repeated setbacks, and that God’s purposes reach beyond one moment of success on a basketball court.

If your family wants an inspiring documentary with a clear Christian message, this is worth the trip.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Jeremy Lin dreamed of playing basketball like Michael Jordan. He worked hard, found success in children’s leagues and high school, led his team to a state championship, and excelled at Harvard.

Yet no NBA team drafted him. After difficult stops with other teams, Lin signed with the New York Knicks. His unexpected rise from the bench to basketball sensation became known as “Linsanity.”

Is It Any Good?

Three stars means this is a strong, worthwhile documentary with some limitations. LINSANITY is absorbing and inspiring, and the story of Jeremy Lin’s journey carries real momentum. The film’s account of struggle, discouragement, discrimination, and eventual success gives its Christian lessons emotional weight.

The main weakness noted by the source is pacing. The documentary is a little slow in places. Still, it more than makes up for that with the tremendous Christian lessons it conveys.

The Worldview

LINSANITY presents a strongly Christian and moral worldview. Jeremy Lin openly explains God’s role in his success and speaks about letting go and letting God work through him. The film presents success not simply as the result of talent or effort, but as something that should be surrendered to God’s purposes.

The documentary also values perseverance, humility, passion, and pursuing God’s will. It shows Jeremy facing discouragement and discrimination while trusting God through difficult circumstances. The film’s message applies beyond basketball: faithfulness matters even when the desired opportunity does not come quickly.

Jeremy’s story is also shaped by his experience as an Asian-American athlete. The film addresses the false impression that basketball is not for Asians and includes racial discrimination and racial slurs against Asians. These realities are presented as obstacles he had to overcome.

At the center is a call to trust God rather than cling tightly to personal control. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
