Should You Watch It?

Yes. Pixar and Disney deliver a great family comedy with plenty of wholesome laughs, a clear plot, superb animation, and characters whose differences become the foundation for friendship.

Mike works extremely hard, while Sulley relies on his famous family name and natural gifts. Their rivalry forces them to learn that success is not just about talent or reputation. Friendship, perseverance, teamwork, and taking care of others matter too.

Very young children may find some of the monsters scary, but the content concerns are light. For most families, this is a warm, funny choice with a strong moral worldview. WORTH THE TRIP for family movie night.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Mike has dreamed of becoming a scarer since he was young. At Monsters University, he meets Sulley, a talented but lackadaisical student from a famous family of scarers.

After a major argument leads to trouble with Dean Hardscrabble, Mike and Sulley are forced to team up in the annual scare competition. With a group of underdogs beside them, they must learn to get along, work hard, and strive for something together.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this is an excellent family film. The animation is superb, the plot is clear, and the movie balances plenty of laughs with genuine heart and soul.

Mike and Sulley are strong characters because their differences drive the story. Their struggle to work together gives the comedy a meaningful center, while the underdog team adds warmth and energy. The result is a wholesome, entertaining animated comedy that succeeds both as fun and as a lesson in friendship.

The Worldview

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY presents a very strong, wholesome moral worldview. It celebrates working together, hard work, perseverance, friendship, taking care of others, and rooting for the underdog. Mike and Sulley must learn that talent, family reputation, and individual ambition are not enough by themselves.

The film also includes one monster who is a New Age hippie. It portrays revenge as wrong and rebukes it, while lying is present as part of the story's immorality. These elements do not erase the film's central emphasis on friendship, responsibility, and caring for others.

The movie's vision of success is strongest when it points beyond personal achievement toward serving a team and protecting one's friends. Scripture similarly calls believers to look beyond themselves: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:4).
