UNIDENTIFIED
Close encounters lead two reporters toward truth, faith, and spiritual answers.
Should You Watch It?
UNIDENTIFIED takes a controversial subject and gives it a distinctly Christian purpose. Two young reporters investigate UFO sightings and alleged abductions while the film raises questions about aliens, spiritual connections, occultism, paganism, and the nature of truth.
The movie is also presented as a useful ministry tool. Its production values are high for its low budget, its special effects effectively hold attention, and its dialogue and humor are especially strong. The serious material addresses evangelism, apologetics, biblical authority, and spiritual growth.
This is a worthwhile choice for older children through adults, particularly families, churches, and viewers who want a Christian film confronting unusual worldview questions. WORTH THE TRIP for families with older children and for ministry use.
The Story
NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISESKeith and Brad, two reporters for “Both Sides” magazine, travel to Texas to investigate a series of UFO sightings and alleged alien abductions. Keith is a nominal Christian, while Brad is an outspoken atheist who strongly opposes Christianity.
As more witnesses come forward and the reports grow stranger, the magazine expands its investigation. The two reporters pursue conflicting theories, and what they uncover begins to change their lives.
Is It Any Good?
Four stars means UNIDENTIFIED is an unusually effective film within its budget and purpose. The production values are high, and the special effects draw viewers into the story and hold their attention.
The dialogue is excellent, with especially well-done humor and many laughs. The dramatic and serious sections are also handled well as the cast addresses occultism, paganism, and other worldview issues. The film’s unique storyline gives its Christian message an engaging setting rather than presenting it as a lecture.
The Worldview
UNIDENTIFIED presents a very strong Christian worldview. It promotes biblical authority, commitment to Christ’s lordship, evangelism, apologetics, church discipline, and spiritual growth. It also addresses healing communication issues in marriage and interpersonal relationships.
The film treats occultism, paganism, paranormal activities, deceit, dishonesty, and a lack of integrity as issues to confront and rebuke. Rather than directing viewers toward occult or pagan involvement, it points them toward personal faith in Christ and Christian discipleship. Its central conflict places Christian witness and truth against antagonism toward Christianity and competing spiritual explanations.
The film’s longing for clear answers ultimately becomes a call to seek truth in Christ rather than in occult or pagan practices. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6).
