Should You Watch It?

Yes — and you can hand the remote to anyone in the house without a second thought. Wade has planned his proposal to Kayla down to the minute, and the movie's comedy comes from watching that plan collide with a farm, a father who isn't impressed by spreadsheets, and a God whose timing doesn't consult anyone's calendar.

This isn't a message film pretending to be entertainment. It's a genuinely fun rom-com — high production value, good performances, a real fish-out-of-water engine — that also happens to take faith seriously. Characters pray, quote Scripture, and talk plainly about trusting God's plan over their own, and none of it feels bolted on.

There's nothing here to caution against — no language, violence, sex, or nudity — which is rare enough that it's worth saying plainly: this is a movie you can simply enjoy. Watch it together.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

Wade has planned every minute of his proposal weekend to Kayla, right down to both sets of parents arriving on cue. Then a cow on Kayla's family farm decides to go into labor, her parents can't make the trip, and Wade finds himself packing up his careful plans for a few days on unfamiliar ground instead — dirt, chores, and a father-in-law-to-be who isn't the least bit interested in schedules.

Is It Any Good?

Four stars means this one delivers on its own terms, and it does. The production value is a cut above what you might expect from a faith-based television rom-com, the fish-out-of-well comedy actually lands, and the cast — including genre veterans like Ted McGinley, Faith Ford, and Judd Nelson — carries the story with warmth rather than winking at it. It's a fun, well-made piece of entertainment, not just a well-meaning one.

The Worldview

This film exalts something Scripture prizes highly: the difference between our plans and God's, and the wisdom of surrendering the first to the second. Wade's whole arc is that lesson in miniature — a man who has organized his life down to the minute discovering that love, family, and faith don't run on his schedule. The movie doesn't just gesture at this theme; it makes characters say it out loud, quote it, and pray about it, with scenes of church attendance, direct citations of Scripture, and honest conversations about leaning on God in hard moments.

There's a small human wrinkle in the plot — a jealous rival who eavesdrops, records a private conversation, and later plays it to cause harm — but the film treats that as wrongdoing, not romance, and resolves it with mutual apology rather than payback. That's a biblical instinct too: conviction followed by reconciliation, not just a happy accident.

The ache underneath Wade's story is a universal one — the desire to control outcomes we were never meant to control. Proverbs names it exactly: "The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps" (Proverbs 16:9).

Talk About It

Four questions for the couch, the commute, or the couple bingeing it together.

01

Wade plans every detail of his life, but the story keeps interrupting his plans with better ones. Where has God interrupted your plans — and how did it turn out?

Proverbs 16:9 · Jeremiah 29:11
02

The movie quotes Psalm 85:12 about God's goodness and provision. What's one area of your life where you're holding tightly to your own plan instead of trusting His?

Psalm 85:12 · Philippians 4:6–7
03

Cameron does something genuinely hurtful — recording a private conversation and using it to wound someone. What does it look like to seek forgiveness the way he and Wade do by the end?

Ephesians 4:32 · Matthew 5:23–24
04

Wade's turning point comes during a church sermon. Has a sermon or a passage of Scripture ever reshaped a decision you were about to make?

James 1:22 · Romans 12:2

The Final Word

Rom-coms rarely give you both the laughs and the substance, but this one manages it — a genuinely entertaining fish-out-of-water story with a Christian worldview that isn't shy about naming itself. There's nothing here to brace for and plenty to enjoy together. Worth the trip.

THE VERDICT Worth the trip.
