Should You Watch It?

This faith-based Christmas drama has a generous heart. It openly quotes Scripture and preaches the Good News of Jesus Christ while emphasizing giving, forgiveness, church, family, and trusting God’s sovereignty.

The movie’s message is stronger than its craftsmanship. Sound mixing, editing, and pacing sometimes pull you out of the characters’ stories instead of drawing you into them. The Christian references can also feel awkward, but the film contains no significant cautions.

If your family values an explicitly Christian Christmas message more than polished technique, this can be a sweet, safe watch. Because the quality is uneven, our practical answer is: wait and see.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

George and Denise are preparing for Christmas in Kentucky when unexpected challenges disrupt their celebrations. George’s brother, Allen, is returning from Los Angeles, while George’s friend Don is struggling over his estranged daughter, Celia.

George devises a plan to reunite them for the holidays. At the same time, Denise’s parents arrive, a Christmas concert becomes increasingly complicated, and George must navigate a tense family relationship. Through it all, the characters face questions of faith, forgiveness, and family.

Is It Any Good?

Two stars means the film’s positive message is more compelling than its execution. THE GIFT OF CHRISTMAS has plenty of heart, and its commitment to Scripture, prayer, church, family, and forgiveness is clear.

However, the sound mixing, editing, and pacing sometimes pull viewers out of the story. The movie’s faith-based content could make it worthwhile for families looking for an explicitly Christian Christmas film, but the technical details keep it from feeling polished.

The Worldview

THE GIFT OF CHRISTMAS presents a strong Christian, biblical, moral worldview. It exalts Scripture, prayer, church, forgiveness, giving, family, and trusting God’s will over personal plans. God remains at the center even when human problems arise, and the movie openly preaches the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The film also portrays repentance and forgiveness within families. A father is mean to his daughter, but reconciliation becomes possible when forgiveness is extended. The many references to the Bible and Christianity support the film’s message, although some of them can feel awkward.

The movie’s central conviction is that people should trust God’s sovereignty rather than trying to control every outcome. That aligns with Scripture’s call to trust the Lord: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).
