Alexa PenaVega is sharing her “superpower” following public backlash about pro-life comments she made.
“I want to share something that happened a month ago that I feel like totally changed my life,” she said in an Instagram video. “I had…an interview that was like a year ago about my pro-life stance get picked up by Buzzfeed and a couple other people just trying to completely destroy me. They were not very nice to me.”
The comments, made at the 2024 Live Action Gala, saw PenaVega criticize how we are “culturally accepting” of abortion.
“We just need to reshape our culture. How do we get past that? It literally takes one person to be brave and move forward and speak on it,” she said.

Commenting on the backlash, PenaVega said, “The realization that I had were two things at once. One, either you guys must really like me…enough to go out and write stuff about me. So, thank you. Or two, that you realize my word holds power, and you’re afraid of the power that I hold. Both are positives, so it’s kind of a superpower.”
The SPY KIDS actress has previously shared her pro-life beliefs. In a 2023 appearance on the “Speak Out” podcast, she described herself as “hardcore pro-life.”
“I just can’t see anything past once life begins that isn’t a whole baby,” she continued. “That is a beautiful life, and for me I will do whatever it takes to protect that.”
PenaVega added, “It breaks my heart that people have been really manipulated into thinking that human life is just so disposable, and they can’t even look at a baby as something that is a human life.”
The actress also expressed her support for mothers, saying, “Pro-life means ALL of life — looking at the aspect of the child, but also the mom. The mom needs resources and help.”
PenaVega and her husband Carlos PenaVega are outspoken about their Christian faith, with the actress telling PEOPLE in 2020, “We’ve never fit the Hollywood mold.”
The pair have since left Los Angeles for Tennessee, with Carlos sharing, “We still have fantastic friends who live there, but most of them don’t have kids and aren’t married….I couldn’t relate to people who didn’t necessarily agree with the way I wanted to live my life.”
PenaVega might have received some negative comments for her pro-life comments, but the actress is standing strong in her beliefs.
