MOM actress Anna Faris had to step back from drinking after she realized what it had done to her life.
She recently shared on the “Dear Chelsea” podcast, “Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure. I had to take a step back to not self-sabotage.”
She did not elaborate on her sobriety journey but added that hormone patches also made a difference for her mental health.
Faris’ character on MOM was a recovering alcoholic. When she left MOM after seven seasons, she felt like her career was over.
“I was, in hindsight, I think pretty depressed,” she said, believing it was mainly caused by perimenopausal depression she hadn’t recognized at the time.
The actress shares her 14-year-old son Jack with ex-husband, Chris Pratt. Pratt is a Christian, and Faris is not. Jack recently asked her if she would accept Jesus Christ into her heart.
“I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s gonna take a whole lot of long conversations,” she explained.
She challenges him about her skeptical views, which he handles maturely.
“I try to challenge him. I’m like, ‘Do you think it’s a luxury that you get to be pro-life?’ …He’s like, ‘Maybe,’” Faris said. “Or I’ll say, ‘So, what do you think of this mega pastor that’s kind of a grifter?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, mega pastors are the worst.’”
Faris is “appreciative that he’s examining religion the way he is in terms of recognizing hypocrisy” and is grateful for the conversations with Jack.
In 2015, she said that Jack had always been very emotionally solid.
“I don’t know where, being a kid in Hollywood, he got that. I don’t know how he got so down-to-earth, but I’m really grateful,” Faris said.
Last year, she told E! News that she was proud to have a teenager who turns to her for help. She often questions if she’s doing a good job as a parent, so it’s comforting to her to know she’s on the right path.
He’s also a great big brother to his three younger siblings through Pratt and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger.
“He’s really great with her,” Pratt said after his first daughter was born. “She always wants to pull his glasses off his face, and he’s very patient with her. He’s a great big brother.”
Faris’ new movie, SPA WEEKEND, an R-rated comedy, came out in theaters yesterday.
