Washington Commanders wide receivers Jacoby Jones and Nick Nash shared a moment of prayer before the start of a practice during training camp.
“He actually came up to me. He just asked me to pray for Him. We pray for us for the practice today,” Jones said of how the two ended up in prayer together, according to sports reporter Kyra Wood. “We just sat there and prayed.”
As the two receivers were praying, Jones said that Jeremiah 29:11 came to mind.
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’” declares the Lord, “’plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,’” the verse reads.
“I encourage y’all to go and check that out. Just getting into that community, you know, seeing each other as more than football players and seeing each other as brothers in Christ,” the athlete continued, saying he could talk about his faith for “years and years.”
“I have a real testimony. The Lord has delivered me from a lot of things, and He’s continuing to work through me, you know, to allow His light to shine,” Jones shared. “And so, like I said, I really could speak for years and years on that.”

“I literally will run out of words to really testify how much God has really done things in my life, and not only for me, but the people around me as well,” he added. “So, I’m just joyful, you know, just for God to give me this chance and this opportunity to be out here and just appreciate all the things that He’s given to me and to everybody else that’s here.”
Jones is in his second year of professional football. Last season, he played in his first NFL game on Nov. 16 when the Commanders faced off against the Miami Dolphins. They ultimately lost the game, but for Jones, it was a win no matter what.
“Look at what the Lord has done! Jesus Is King!” the wide receiver declared on Instagram after the game.
In the caption of the post, he also included 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, which reads, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
No matter what happens this season, Jones is already grateful for all of the things that the Lord has done in his life.
The Commanders play their first regular season game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 13.
