Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud is about to head into his fourth NFL season and recently shared his off-season strategy to improve his game.
“I don’t know. I kind of — I think I’ve been kind of consistent. I feel like when I was coming off my rookie year, my first offseason, I really didn’t know what to do. Second one, you’re trying to tailor it to like exactly what that looks like. And then this last one, it’s like, okay, I have an idea,” Stroud told reporters. “So I think anything in life, it just takes time. But I think I just was consistent the whole time and, you know, just focused on me and getting better in my faith, my family, and then with football.”
Last season was one of Stroud’s best as he had a season-high of 318 passing yards, completing 30 total passes and scoring two touchdowns as the Texans upset the San Francisco 49ers 26-15.

When asked how he made it happen, the quarterback pointed to his faith.
“First, I just want to give all glory and praise to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Stroud told NFL ON FOX after the game. “Without Him, I’m nothing. I’m a broken, wretched, sinful man. He saved me time and time again. I just put my confidence in Him. Whenever I lack self-confidence, I have God-confidence.”
While speaking at the Annual Global Humanitarian Awards earlier this year, Stroud talked about the beauty of suffering, referencing Philippians 1:29 (KJV), which says, “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake.”
“So, when I think about this foundation and my mother’s trailblaze for not only just myself but for our family, for our community,” he said of the foundation he started alongside his mother, “I think about the sufferings that we’ve gone through. It’s not only something that the Lord Jesus preached about but also something that’s in the fruit of the Spirit, and I think suffering is beautiful. Suffering, I believe, is the reason why we’re sitting here today, and that’s the reason why we have the heart we do.”
As Stroud steps into his fourth season, it’s clear the growth he values most isn’t measured in yards or touchdowns, but in a faith that’s steadied him through every stage of his young career.
