Leanne Morgan called Hollywood out for not creating content for “the middle of the United States.”

“Honest to goodness, I think in the secular world, I think people, no, I think a lot of people don’t want to see all that,” the comedian said while appearing on THE WOMEN OF JOY SHOW, referring to movies with “women in their panties shooting bows and arrows and all the things like it.”

Morgan continued, “I think a lot of people don’t want to see all that, and I think they’re in a bubble out there. And they think people want to see that, but they’re not in the middle of the United States.”

She shared a story of her time on the set of YOU’RE CORDIALLY INVITED, saying the script called for her to say cuss words in front of children, something she told the movie’s director a Southern mom would never do.

Morgan said the director told her, “You know better than I do, Leanne, and you do what you think is best.”

“So I think they think in their minds, ‘Oh, everybody’s talking like this, everybody wants this,’ but I don’t think the majority of people do,” she continued. “Or not in the South, especially when you’re portraying Southern characters. Or anywhere really.”

It’s something Morgan particularly focused on while making her Netflix sitcom LEANNE, which just premiered its second season.

“At first, I thought, ‘Are they gonna get this right?’ Cause people stereotype the South and church people and all of that, so that was very important to me,” she said of the show’s writers. “And I realized I had to give them grace, because a lot of my writers were not raised in church, and I think they’ve done a really good job.”

Season 2 is already a hit with Morgan’s viewers. In an interview with Country Living, the comedian shared, “Everywhere I go, people point out and go, ‘Oh, my gosh, I love that show.’ I got a lot more men fans, which thrills me, because, you know, I love men. I’m a flirt. And then I get women saying, “My eight year old goes to bed to it every night,” or “My 16 year old loves it,” and that just thrills me.”

“I’m so thankful, ’cause I grew up on multi-cams, and your family being able to sit around and watch something,” she continued.

LEANNE Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
