Corinne Foxx and her father, Jamie Foxx, traded jokes about family and Hollywood in a new interview, but their gratitude came into sharp focus when the conversation turned to his 2023 stroke.
“It’s such a blessing to be able to work with your family,” Corinne, an actress and executive producer, told actress and podcast host Keke Palmer.
Corinne and Academy Award-winning actor, musician and comedian Jamie joined Palmer for the Aug. 25 episode of BABY, THIS IS KEKE PALMER. The father-daughter duo also celebrated a fresh milestone: BEAT SHAZAM, which Foxx hosts with Corinne as cohost and DJ, is marking its 100th episode during Season 8.
That family thread ran through the wider conversation. Corinne said her father worked throughout her childhood but still appeared at soccer games and recitals; crew members on THE JAMIE FOXX SHOW reportedly knew that telling him about one of her events could send him straight off the set. Years later, that lesson in showing up came back around.
The conversation moved easily from impressions and career memories to the crisis that upended their family. Foxx revealed in the 2024 Netflix special JAMIE FOXX: WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS… that a brain bleed led to a stroke in April 2023. TODAY reported that he underwent surgery and later completed rehabilitation in Chicago after waking in a wheelchair.

“When you’re in it, you don’t have time to be scared,” Corinne said. She explained that she shifted into caretaking mode, concentrating on protecting her father and helping him reach the other side of the ordeal.
That protection included refusing to feed the public’s appetite for private details. As strange rumors spread online, Corinne said she faced pressure she had never experienced before.
“But it also was not my place to ever release his medical information,” she said. Corinne added that people could speculate as much as they wanted as long as her father was safe.
Foxx later asked his surgeon for an unvarnished account of what happened. The answer left him emotional on Palmer’s set.
“Hey man, without her, you wouldn’t be here,” Foxx remembered the surgeon telling him. The doctor, he said, credited Corinne with taking control amid both the medical emergency and the media frenzy.
Foxx now calls his daughter Michael Corleone, comparing her response to the character who rushes to protect his father in THE GODFATHER. Beneath the pop-culture nickname sits a father’s plain realization: Corinne took charge when he could not.
The experience also deepened Foxx’s gratitude to God and his family. He described survival as a second chance and said recognizing his daughter’s love and strength made him determined to live that new life fully.
That gratitude has surfaced before. Movieguide® previously reported that Foxx thanked God, Corinne and his younger daughter, Anelise Bishop, during his emotional 2025 BET Awards acceptance speech, telling the audience that his family made sure he was still there.
Now, the same father and daughter who endured hospital rooms, rumors and rehabilitation can sit together under bright studio lights and laugh again. For Corinne, another season of BEAT SHAZAM is no longer just work; it is a family blessing she nearly lost.
