Last Sunday, rock band Creed’s lead singer Scott Stapp shared about his faith during a concert at Velocity Festival.

“You know, if you’re trying to figure out what your purpose is in life, what this life is for, I know for me, the more I didn’t surrender to love, the more I didn’t surrender there to God, the more difficulties I had,” Stapp said to an audience of thousands. “And I remember asking God, ‘Why?’ And I felt in my spirit, ‘I got to do what I got to do to get you on your knees, to get you to cry out to me.’”

He encouraged people to have faith because it’s sad to live without it. He also explained that every person in the world has flaws, him included. Jesus came for everyone.

He shared his testimony of alcohol addiction. He only overcame it with God’s help. He now looks at his sobriety as a “victory.”

“He came for the broken,” Stapp said. “That’s all of us.”

He only realized he could have a deep relationship with God when he realized faith isn’t about rules.

“It’s about an authentic life trying to grow and become the best version of you,” Stapp said. “Don’t ever think you’re not good enough. That held me back for decades of my life. I pray you find what this life is for.”

He then sang some of Brandon Lake’s song, “Gratitude,” a cappella.

Some people in the crowd showed visible resonance with Stapp’s message and lifted their hands as he sang.

His solo 2024 album, Higher Power, is all about Stapp’s life and faith. Some of the lyrics in his title song include his testimony. Some of the lyrics are:

Life had forsaken me
Left me alone to bleed
I was ready to meet my maker
The day I died was the day I came back to life

Now I’m alive
I walked through fire
I survived

I’m burning brighter

When Creed started out, Stapp made a promise to God that he would always stay true to Him in his lyrics. He would often pray to God about his career.

He admitted, “I was a Christian who was in rebellion and running from the brand of Christianity that I was raised on.”

But he realized God was there every time he wrote music for his albums.

“It’s ironic that every time I sat down in a song that was addressing a spiritual issue or me wrestling with my beliefs or my faith, it would always be resolved at the end,” he told The Christian Post.

The artist will resume a brief tour with his band in mid-December.
