At 6 feet 8 inches tall and a reported 350 pounds, there’s probably not a whole lot that Martyn Ford, who played Goliath in HOUSE OF DAVID, is afraid of, but even he has giants to slay.
“My Goliath, probably against myself,” the bodybuilder told Kirk Franklin. “In all honesty, never feeling adequate enough, never feeling like I’ve achieved what I want to achieve, and to set the examples that I feel now being a father, I need to set, and to show my children that … anything is possible, but nothing comes easy.”
Not only does he want to be an inspiration to his three children, but as a personal trainer, he wants to inspire people to achieve their goals as well. The Englishman has gained a massive social media following, with 4.6 million followers on Instagram, sharing his workouts or training sessions with others.
“Remember when they said you couldn’t…there is nothing more satisfying than showing them you can,” the 44-year-old posted in one video of his cardio routine.
The MORTAL KOMBAT II star also shared the importance of grace in overcoming the giant of fear of failure.

“I think now, as you mature, you try to accept life for what it is, and enjoy each day as much as you can, and accept we’re all human and have weaknesses, and we’re not always perfect at the right time, and we make mistakes,” Ford added.
Ford’s HOD co-star Michael Iskander, who plays the titular character, said that the series’ message of bravery was an inspiration as he faces his own giants.
“Everyone has their Goliath that they have to deal with, and I hope that they are able to take away this message of courage, of bravery, and to be able to gain courage to face those giants in their lives,” Iskander told Crosswalk.
Iskander will be slaying more giants, albeit in a proverbial sense, in the upcoming third season of HOUSE OF DAVID, after the success of the first two season, with season one reaching over 40 million viewers.
“In Season 3, David’s (Iskander) journey comes full circle from outcast shepherd to fierce warrior, to his ultimate destiny as King. But before the throne, there is exile. David is a hunted outlaw, forced to hide among his enemies and live yet another dangerous lie,” the plot reads per Deadline.
According to show runners executive producers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn, the third season will showcase David at “one of the most defining chapters of his life.”
“Whether audiences have known David through Scripture or are encountering him from a fresh perspective, we hope the series continues to reveal why his story has resonated across generation,” they added.
Movieguide® called the first season’s episodes “engrossing”and “perfect examples of how to take a dramatic scene from the Bible and translate it to a visual medium.”
