For Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, getting to talk to Tim Tebow, his childhood hero, gave him the chance to share how the former quarterback impacted his faith.

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix‘s pirmary focus isn’t necessarily scoring touchdowns and winning games; it’s spreading the gospel.

“Thank you for giving me someone to look up to,” Nix wrote on a jersey he sent to Tebow as part of the Broncos’ “Jersey Swap” series.

“I don’t think you realize truly how, just as a kid, when you’re looking for talents you have and how to use it — I really understood why you did things,” he told Tebow. “You were doing it for one purpose, one person only. And you were just literally trying to share Jesus. And I would tell myself, I want to grow up and be just like that. I want to do the exact same thing. I don’t want it to be about me, but I want it to be about sharing the gospel.”

“Really and truly, I do mean it,” Nix emphasized. “You did something special, and thank you.”

Tebow, who quarterbacked for the Broncos for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, similarly praised Nix’s dedication: “Your faith, determination, and resilience are second to none. So proud of you. Your brother in Christ,” he wrote on his jersey.

Among other topics, the pair discussed fatherhood. Nix and his wife, Izzy, welcomed daughter Riley on Feb. 25. A few months after her birth, he penned a letter to her, reflecting on last season and what really matters.

“You won’t remember last season. You won’t remember Lutz’s game-winner against the Chiefs, Nik’s game-saving stop against the Commanders, or J-Mac’s incredible interception and Marvin’s TD catch against the Bills,” Nix wrote. “You won’t remember our crazy comebacks, our win streak, or the deafening roar of our fans at Mile High.”

“You won’t remember us being Overdogs,” he continued. “You also won’t remember the cameras zooming in on me during the AFC Championship Game, sitting in a suite with a boot. You won’t remember how close we were to the Super Bowl, or how badly I wanted to be out there with my teammates.”

Nix wants Riley to know how he put his faith in God before anything else.

“I want you to know how I’ve leaned on my faith in Jesus and our family to keep moving forward,” the quarterback said. “Not just in the context of this season, but as a man, a husband, an athlete and now as a father.”

While the wins and losses will fill highlight reels and record books, Nix seems most concerned with the legacy he’s building off the field: one rooted in faith, family and the same kind of purpose-driven witness that shaped him as a kid watching Tebow.
