LEGO Unveils THE X-FILES Set Featuring These Exciting Minifigures

The truth is out there, and now Fox Mulder and Dana Scully come in brick form.

“Seeing myself in minifigure form is both surreal and oddly delightful — there’s something very charming about being ‘miniaturised,'” Gillian Anderson, who played Dana Scully, said in a statement announcing the new LEGO Ideas THE X-FILES set.

LEGO revealed the 1,478-piece build on July 21 in collaboration with Disney Entertainment, timed for adult collectors old enough to remember Mulder and Scully’s original run on Fox.

The set recreates Mulder’s FBI basement office, a forest clearing investigation scene and a hovering UFO on a transparent stand. It ships with eight minifigures: Mulder, Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch, The Flukeman and a grey alien.

Fans will spot hidden nods throughout, including Mulder’s famous “I Want to Believe” poster, a “The Truth Is Out There” tile, an X-Files dossier, pencils stuck in the office ceiling and a shout-out to Mulder’s sunflower seed habit.

Anderson, the Emmy-winning actor who played Scully across the show’s original run and its 2016 and 2018 revival seasons, also stars in a cinematic mini-film released alongside the set. “I didn’t expect to be stepping back into Scully’s heels to investigate a LEGO set… it has been so much fun revisiting that world all these years later,” she said. “This set is a wonderful celebration of the X-Files, and the fans who have kept its mystery alive.”

The original concept came from Brisbane-based 3D artist and fan designer Brent Waller, who submitted the design as part of LEGO Ideas’ ’90s Nostalgia Challenge.

“I was obsessed with THE X-FILES from the moment I first saw it in the ’90s. I originally built Mulder’s office back in 2014 while rewatching the series, and it grew from there as a personal project,” Waller said. “I’m thrilled to see it become an official LEGO set and hope it resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences.”

The set carries an 18-plus age recommendation and retails for $199.99. LEGO Insiders get early access starting Aug. 1, with a wide release Aug. 4. Buyers who order between Aug. 1 and Aug. 10 also get a bonus Scully’s Lab mini-build free while supplies last.

For families, THE X-FILES was never quite family fare. Movieguide®’s review of 1998’s THE X-FILES gave the movie 3/4 stars and noted a “moderately strong moral” worldview nodding to “the biblical ideals of truth, liberty and self-sacrifice,” but flagged eight obscenities, four profanities and moderate action violence.

The 2008 sequel THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE fared worse on the family-content meter, drawing a -3 rating for macabre kidnapping and organ-harvesting storylines. Movieguide®’s reviewer noted the movie’s mixed worldview, with Scully’s Catholic hospital plotline colliding with a pedophile-priest character and unresolved questions about faith.

The series itself long danced with belief and skepticism — Scully the medical doctor and rational skeptic, Mulder the man who wanted to believe. That posture made the show a cultural touchstone for a generation asking real spiritual questions in a decade that increasingly dismissed easy answers.

Some of what THE X-FILES wrestled with lines up with a biblical instinct: heroes who won’t stop pursuing the truth even when institutions want them silent. Much of it doesn’t. The show’s flirtation with alien mythology, occult imagery and monster-of-the-week horror put plenty of episodes squarely in territory Movieguide® has long flagged for careful viewing.

The nostalgia is coming full circle. Filmmaker Ryan Coogler is producing a reboot for Hulu starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel, and now Mulder and Scully sit on adult collectors’ shelves in plastic form.

Anderson doesn’t seem to mind: “I know I can’t wait to put tiny Scully on my shelf.”
