Netflix’s LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE pulled 6.4 million views in just four days after its July 9 premiere, landing the reboot at No. 3 on the streamer’s weekly TV chart for July 6-12, according to Variety.

“I always like to say that this show is a love story about a family,” showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine told Netflix Tudum ahead of the launch. “They’re a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with.”

The revival trailed only Harlan Coben thriller I WILL FIND YOU, which topped the chart for a fourth straight week with 11.5 million views, and docuseries WORST NEIGHBOR EVER, which held second place with 8.1 million. Netflix has already renewed LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE for a second season.

The Movieguide® review of the premiere episode gave the show a strong nod, awarding 4/4 stars for entertainment quality and a +2 in family content, which flags moderately questionable elements for younger viewers.

“LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE’s premiere episode is beautifully shot, written and acted, with a script that displays the real challenges the Ingalls will face,” Movieguide® wrote. The review pointed to a strong moral worldview stressing family, hope, kindness and neighbors helping neighbors.

Movieguide® advised parental discernment for younger children because of some light violence, including a scary scene with menacing wolves and a brief shoving match between two girls. Otherwise, the review noted, the episode has no objectionable content.

Directed by Sarah Adina Smith and written by Sonnenshine, the series follows Pa, Ma, Mary and Laura Ingalls as they journey by covered wagon from Wisconsin to a homestead in Independence, Kansas. Luke Bracey plays Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald plays Caroline, 14-year-old Skywalker Hughes plays Mary, and 11-year-old Alice Halsey plays Laura.

Hughes told Movieguide® the story still speaks to modern viewers because of what it holds up as important. “I think there’s a whole generation of people who haven’t been exposed to these books, and even the show, and I think it’s a really awesome family story and kind of shows what it was like back then,” she said.

Bracey pointed to what he called the “real timelessness” of the Ingalls family in his conversation with Movieguide®. “What the Ingalls family goes through and the community they’re a part of is the same thing that everyone goes through in their life all the time,” he said. “I don’t think there’s a time period that this exists in, because I think the themes and the experiences are what everyone around the world goes through all the time.”

Halsey said being stranded on the prairie forced the Ingalls sisters to lean on each other. “I think that all they have is each other, like with Mary and Laura, there aren’t a lot of other kids on the prairie, so they have to have each other’s backs,” she said.

Warren Christie, who plays Ingalls family neighbor John Edwards, told Fox News the cast felt the weight of honoring the source material. “If you’re a true fan of a book, we did everything we could to make sure that that storytelling was told in the right way,” he said.

Sonnenshine made a similar point in an interview with PEOPLE. “I want people to know, first of all, everybody making this show cares about the books and bringing it to life and being as authentic as we can and bringing all those details to life that people love,” she said.

For Christian families weighing where to spend their streaming time, the early numbers suggest they aren’t the only ones heading back to Walnut Grove. The show’s mix of hardship, resilience and neighborly kindness offers a rare thing on 2026 TV: a story where family bonds actually carry the plot.

LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE is streaming on Netflix.
