Mackenzie Sol has chased a win since he was just 4 years old when he auditioned in front of Simon Cowell on THE X FACTOR.
He made it to AMERICAN IDOL’s top 20 in 2024, and now he’s trying out for AGT. He won over the judges, and Mel B even slammed the Golden Buzzer.
But even with 12.1 million TikTok followers and 2 million Instagram followers, he feels like it may not be enough for him to win the competition because most of his fans aren’t adults. And most of his videos are comedic and aren’t about singing.
“It’s just completely different. Kids go on [and watch] and in every scene, kids want to see me bang my head off a cabinet door. It’s hard to take that and say, “We’re going into this now.” It’s going to be a slow burn changing it up,” he told Parade.
Though 13-year-olds and up can vote on AGT, he has no way of knowing if they’ll vote for him. He is going to give it his all though and hope for the best.
“I’m going to do what I can do. Push the way I can push and just hope, but again, you never know what’s going to happen,” he said.

However, his audition song, “Back to Friends,” is very sensual. If parents were watching, they might not be too keen on their children hearing that.
Sol said he has more pressure than other contestants because he had a golden buzzer. It increases viewers’ expectations.
“So, obviously it’s incredible I got the Golden Buzzer, but people are expecting something great, so it’s also more pressure,” the 25-year-old said. “I need to really bring it. Step it up.”
On Aug. 21, he appealed to his Instagram followers to vote for him.
“Apparently performing on @agt was the easy part 😭 now I have to organize a fanclub by Tuesday so more people than my mother vote 😂No pressure 😂Solmates assemble 🫡” he captioned the post.
Last week, he told TV Insider that his next performance will be something that’s “never been done” on the show before.
“And it’s very different. It’s very raw. It’s very me. It’s just raw and emotional, and it’s a female song that I’m doing a rendition of,” Sol explained. “So, there’s a lot of pressure going into it, but I want to take the risks to see what the outcome is.”
No matter what happens, he still wants to make music and has some original songs up his sleeve.
He said, “There’s a guy called Charlie Rocket…One of his quotes is, ‘A winner is only a loser who tried again.’ And I think I can really relate to that with what I’ve done. That’s something that’s really hit me. So, I’m going for the win. I really am.”
