Netflix has locked in a release date for THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, and families who skipped the theater or don’t subscribe to Peacock can finally circle a day on the calendar.
The animated sequel streams on Netflix starting Nov. 30, once it wraps a four-month exclusive run on Peacock that began July 30, according to Collider.
“We’re thinking about broadening Mario’s world further, and it’ll have a bright and fun story,” Nintendo Creative Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto said when the studio first announced the sequel back in March 2024.
Universal Pictures released THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE in theaters April 1, and it has already cleared $1 billion worldwide, making it the first movie of 2026 to hit that milestone. That places it as the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation ever made, trailing only 2023’s THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE and its $1.36 billion haul.
Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key and Donald Glover all return to voice Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad and Yoshi, respectively. Brie Larson joined the cast as Rosalina, and Benny Safdie voices Bowser Jr., who kidnaps Rosalina hoping to steal her cosmic power for himself. Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic returned behind the camera, working from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel.

Made on a reported $110 million budget, THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE has already returned nearly 10 times that at the box office. Illumination and Nintendo also used the release to set a Guinness World Record for smallest popcorn bucket, a miniature cauldron nodding to Bowser’s shrunken castle in the plot. It’s a small, silly detail, but it says something about how much marketing muscle both companies are putting behind this franchise.
Movieguide® reviewed THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE when it opened in theaters, calling it family-friendly entertainment worth four out of four stars for entertainment quality. Parents of younger or more sensitive kids should still brace for intense action sequences and a handful of genuinely scary moments scattered through the runtime.
The story’s real hook has less to do with another Bowser rampage than with a harder question: can his own son resist following him down the same path, and can Bowser himself change at all? Sibling loyalty, loving one’s enemies and doing right even when it costs something all run through the plot.
Movieguide® did flag one line suggesting “the universe” itself withholds forgiveness, a shaky theological notion worth a quick conversation with kids afterward. The broader arc still leans toward grace winning out over grudges, which tracks with how Movieguide® praised the original 2023 movie for its own message about brotherhood and overcoming evil together.
“We have always valued our partnership with NBCUniversal, and we are excited to expand it to bring even more entertainment to our U.S. members starting in 2027,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, said when the two companies renewed their licensing agreement in October 2024. That deal, which gives Netflix a 10-month window after a Peacock premiere before titles cycle back, explains why GALAXY’s home-viewing rollout runs through Peacock first and Netflix second.
Nintendo has already hinted this won’t be the last crossover-style expansion of Mario’s world, with Miyamoto suggesting other franchises could eventually share the screen. For now, Thanksgiving weekend gives Christian families one more reasonably wholesome option for a movie night everyone can agree on.
