SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY has broken records, stirred audiences and left Sony facing the happiest kind of question: When does Spider-Man swing back into theaters?

“We don’t have a date for it yet. A couple years usually, but there’s a SPIDER-VERSE movie coming next year,” Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Ravi Ahuja said when asked about the next live-action installment.

Ahuja offered the update Wednesday at the BofA Securities 2026 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference in New York. His answer leaves SPIDER-MAN 5 without an official release date or window, but it also suggests Sony intends to give its other web-slinging franchise room to breathe first.

That next stop is SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE, the animated conclusion to Miles Morales’ trilogy. Sony Pictures Animation lists it for June 18, 2027, so fans should not treat Ahuja’s rough estimate of a couple of years as a firm promise about Tom Holland’s return. The release gives Sony another high-profile Spider-Man chapter next summer without forcing the live-action series onto the same calendar.

The caution comes after an astonishing summer for Holland’s Peter Parker. As of Sept. 9, Box Office Mojo listed SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY at $925.9 million domestically and $2.41 billion worldwide, numbers that made the movie 2026’s runaway theatrical story. Variety ranked it as the third-biggest theatrical release ever.

“There’s so much appeal to the character of Peter Parker. So much appeal to the character, but you got to execute it right. And this movie really did,” Ahuja said.

“The movie itself is very emotional…Some people come away crying, so that is something clearly that resonated with the audience,” Ahuja added.

He credited director Destin Daniel Cretton, Marvel Studios President and producer Kevin Feige, producer Amy Pascal, and a cast led by actors Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink. Sony also launched the movie on more than 80,000 screens worldwide at once, a distribution record that paired an unusually wide rollout with the story’s emotional pull.

Movieguide®’s review reached a similar conclusion about the movie’s heart. It awarded SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY four stars for entertainment quality and praised Peter Parker’s sacrificial heroism, including his willingness to risk his life for another person and call a villain away from vengeance.

That strong Christian and moral worldview gives families something substantial beneath the superhero spectacle. The review also issued an Extreme Caution rating, however, citing nearly 40 obscenities and profanities, including repeated misuse of God’s name, along with extensive action violence and some nudity.

Holland’s first three solo SPIDER-MAN movies arrived two years apart, but SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY followed SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME after a five-year gap. Ahuja did not turn that old rhythm into a deadline, and Sony and Marvel Studios have not announced the next movie’s schedule.

Sony still owes fans a date, but Ahuja’s explanation gives the eventual sequel a clear target. Audiences showed up for big action and stayed with a Peter Parker story rooted in sacrifice, mercy and redemption; those qualities should follow him into the next chapter.
