Tamera Mowry Housley recently realized she needs to make a change in her prayer life.

“I realized that I was coming to God in prayer like He was my personal genie,” the actress recalled in an Instagram video.

She did so out of habit, with little purpose to it. Because she did that, she didn’t notice what He’d already done and wasn’t giving thanks for those things.

“He still wants to hear what we need. That part never changes. But there is something that shifts when gratitude comes first, and I felt it before I could explain it,” Mowry Housley wrote in the caption.

She encouraged her followers to give thanks before they present their requests.

Earlier this year, Mowry Housley shared the importance of having a relationship with God.

“My faith didn’t happen overnight. It started with me opening my Bible and seeking God, and I promise you, that changes you. I’m still on this journey,” she said.

She said reading the Bible front to back has helped her understand God more. She felt like she changed as a person because of it and more spiritually whole.

“I proudly call myself a Christian,” Mowry Housley said in another post on social media, “and a lot of the times when I speak of my faith, it comes from a place of encouragement.”

In a 2016 episode of THE PREACHERS, Housley confessed that she’s been on a “rollercoaster” with her faith. It was when her show SISTER SISTER ended that she struggled a lot because all of a sudden she wasn’t acting.

“That’s when you know if you truly are serving God for the right reasons. Because I was in the valley for some time, and you truly know who you are when you’re in the valley,” she revealed. “And you know who He is when you’re in the valley.”

After SISTER SISTER, she and her twin, Tia, moved out of their parents’ home and made their own home together. However, it was very difficult for them, as they realized they had a lot of differences. But she learned to put God and her family first.

Mowry Housley previously told Essence, “I know my priorities: God, family and work…When those things are in check, the work will flow.”

She also wrote on her and Tia’s website that life is a gift from God.

“It’s important we live it to the fullest and not get stuck or preoccupied with the worries, fears or pain,” Mowry Housley said. “Instead, all we can do is trust in God and live every day He’s given us to the very fullest.”

Mowry Housley’s journey is a reminder to Christians to approach God with gratitude, recognizing His faithfulness before bringing their requests to Him.
