“Cooler Than Me” singer Mike Posner believes happiness is a choice.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive'” Posner began in a recent Instagram post, quoting Acts 20:35.
Posner was recently encouraged by a question his pastor posed at church. He asked, “If you got what you wanted, would you actually be satisfied?”
After he thought about it, Posner realized that he believed that he’d only be happy if he achieved certain goals.
“Once things are different…Once somebody else stops acting the way they’re acting now…There were so many reasons for why I’m not happy in this present moment, but at the end of the day, they are all excuses,” the singer explained. “Reasons = excuses.”
He realized that he has everything he needs to be happy, and he needs to focus less on himself.
“I need to pray less for things that I want to happen in my life and to pray more for how I can be a blessing to others,” he said. He encouraged his followers to try to not complain for a whole day, with their mouths or in their minds.

He ended the post with an image of hands making a heart: “Keep going.”
Posner became a Christian one year ago after a series of events in his life. One of those experiences was a friend speaking about events in his life without prior knowledge. The artist said at the time he felt “electricity” shooting up his spine and a “deep feeling of Oneness.”
In January, Posner changed the lyrics to his song “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” to make it about sobriety.
In the chorus, Posner credits God for restoring his purpose and career. He said his life is “up to God” and that faith had brought him “back onstage singing.”
Many of his followers heartily support his decision to follow God.
One person said, “So cool seeing God taking famous Hollywood stars and saying, this person is now following me & is making cool songs.’ Congrats, Mike Posner!”
“I prayed for this years ago. God bless you! This is awesome,” added another person. Another said, “Love seeing the Mike that’s following Christ. Can’t wait for that Christian album.”
When he announced his faith last month, Posner said, “To be a Christian means to aspire with all your mind, body, and soul to live as Christ did.” It means choosing forgiveness and grace, especially for “the least among us,” Posner said, adding, “Christ has not made my life or my heart smaller, but much, much bigger.”
Now that Posner has a new solid foundation to stand on, hopefully his career and ministry will grow.
