When COYOTE VS. ACME was finally finished in 2023, Warner Bros. shelved it for a tax write-off.

Its cast, crew and fans were massively disappointed…until Ketchup Entertainment swooped in to save the day. Thanks to its purchase of the movie, the live-action animation hybrid will release in theaters on Aug. 28. The first public screening was last Saturday at Comic Con.

“I’ve waited so long to see their reaction. I feel like the years, to me, have [all led] up to tonight,” Lana Condor, who stars alongside Will Forte and John Cena, said ahead of the screening. “I want so badly for them to love it, and I think they will. I’m so confident in that.”

In the movie, Wile E. Coyote sues Acme over its defective explosives.

“So many people stood up for a film they didn’t even see…which is exactly Wile’s entire journey throughout our entire film!” Condor said. “The reason that it’s going to come out at all, I firmly believe, is because of the fans. That was really incredible to experience.”

She was especially excited for the screening because many fans there fought for the movie to come out.

“I’m so confident that the fight was for a good reason,” she said.

Director Dave Green called it from the beginning.

“For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate and resilient character of all time,” Green posted on X in 2023. “…I am beyond proud of the final product, and beyond devastated by WB’s decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day.”

When the news originally came out that the movie wouldn’t get shown to audiences, Forte was very angry.

“My thoughts were that it’s f****** *******,” Forte told MovieWeb earlier this year. “It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than it got. I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it. But it makes my blood boil.”

Forte said recently, “I’m just so excited about this. I never thought it would come out. So to have this delayed celebration of this move that I love so much… When I heard they were cancelling it, they let me see it a week later, and it was like everything I had hoped it would be.”

Forte is overwhelmed with emotions now that release day is almost here.

“It is so exciting and I can’t wait for people to see this movie,” he said.

The movie hits theaters on Aug. 28.
