Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has more on his mind this season than just winning.

“I’m chasing Jesus, man,” Jackson declared in a video on Instagram, per Christhlete. “A better version of myself. I feel like when you’re a great person, you can help other people be great people as well. So always good to lift someone up.”

“You know, you never know what type of day someone else is having,” the quarterback continued. “You know, your day could be made, but someone else is going through it. And a lot of us never know what someone’s going through at home. It’s all about just treating everyone with respect.”

If there’s one thing Jackson can’t live without, it’s his Bible.

“We can’t live without the Bible; we can’t live without God,” he shared in a video with GQ Sports in 2024. “You know, He’s the one who wakes me up each and every day. He’s the one who has me performing in my profession or just doing my profession, something I wanted to do all my life. You know, we pray before games and we pray together after the game whether we win, lose, draw, whatever. We still pray. We gotta give God the glory no matter what.”

Jackson grew up in church, so faith in God is foundational, and even though pro football makes it hard, he loves going to church.

“I don’t be in church a lot because, obviously, I play football on Sundays, but when I can, I’m definitely in church. Redeemer Christian Center in Fort Lauderdale Beach,” the quarterback said.

In 2023, Jackson became the highest paid player in the NFL when he signed a five-year extension with the Ravens.

“I just really wanted to get something done here. I wanted to be here. … I really want to finish my career here and win a Super Bowl here,” he said in a press conference before thanking God for the opportunity.

“It is not about what people say. … It is about believing in yourself at the end of the day,” he said. “Keeping God first because without Him, there is no Lamar Jackson. I’m gonna tell you that now.”

Jackson’s biggest piece of advice? “You’ve got to keep God first.”

“Pray to God, and you’ve got to be consistent with God,” he said on “The Wunderkind Show” podcast. “It’s not like making a wish, like seeing a shooting star and just making a wish. You’ve got to be consistent when you’re praying to God.”

As Jackson prepares to enter into his 9th NFL season, his focus is clear: following Jesus.
