Singer-songwriter Seph Schlueter shared the important lesson he learned about worshipping, even in the face of great tragedy.
“Two years today was the most angry I’ve ever been at God. It was the day we held our dead baby girl,” he shared on Instagram. “After finding out we lost her, praying for a miracle and not getting one, induction at 20 weeks, and the worst labor/delivery imaginable, I was so mad at Him for all of it.”
Schlueter continued, “I still don’t know why, but I have learned this: we don’t always get answers, but we always get His presence.”
He shared that he wrote a song, titled “Valley of Worship,” to “remind me of that, and that God is still worthy of my worship, no matter what I’m feeling or facing.”
“He’s the only one who can turn a Valley of Death into a Valley of Worship. And that’s what I’ve seen Him do in these two years,” Schlueter wrote. “Happy birthday, Charlotte. Thanks for bringing me and so many others who have heard your story closer to Jesus. We love you.”

In a 2025 interview with Crosswalk, Schlueter made similar comments about how this tragic loss caused him to view his own music differently.
“It’s about praising God through your pain,” he said, specifically of track, “This Side of Heaven.” “It’s about praising God through the midst of suffering, and how that’s a special gift that we can give on this side [of heaven], that we can’t on that side.”
Schlueter said the song “became a lifeline for me,” explaining that the song’s message became, “I can still praise you in this pain, God, and in the midst of mystery — I don’t understand why, but I’m still gonna give you this gift. And so it took on a totally different meaning.”
Schlueter recently made history — he is the first CCM artist to see his first three career singles all reach No. 1 since the 1990s.
Debut single “Counting My Blessings” was No. 1 for four weeks, while “Running Back to You” held the top spot for five weeks.
“He completed the historic streak with ‘Won’t Start Now,’ which spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Christian Airplay and three consecutive weeks at No. 1 in Mediabase Impressions,” Gospel Music Association reported. “Together, these milestones mark Schlueter as the first debut CCM artist in decades to deliver three consecutive chart-topping singles at this scale, signaling a major new voice in the format.”
Schlueter’s new song is a reminder of God’s goodness, even in the darkest of times.
