Should You Watch It?

RETURN TO ME is a standard romantic comedy with an unusual heart. Its characters have realistic strength, which helps both the humor and the drama come alive. The relationship at the center is based on true love and good moral character rather than immoral sexual intentions.

The film also treats grief seriously. Bob must learn to move forward after losing his wife, while Grace wrestles with the knowledge that her life came through someone else’s death. The story’s unusual situation creates emotional complications, but the movie’s moral center remains clear.

The cost is its language and other content. Several profanities and obscenities appear, including two used by a child; lying and gambling also require conversation. If your family can discuss those concerns thoughtfully, this is worth seeing together. For most families, the practical answer is WORTH THE TRIP — MIDDLE SCHOOL AND UP.

The Story

NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISES

After losing his wife in a car accident, Bob struggles to rebuild his life. More than a year later, he accepts a friend’s offer to go on a blind date.

Grace, meanwhile, is enjoying a new life after receiving a heart transplant. When Bob and Grace meet, they quickly connect. But Grace carries a secret about her surgery, and the past is closer to their new relationship than either of them realizes.

Is It Any Good?

Three stars means RETURN TO ME is a good, if standard, romantic comedy with an unusual premise. The characters are portrayed with realistic strength, making the humor and drama feel genuine. The romance also avoids the usual sexual innuendoes and advances, giving the relationship a stronger moral foundation.

The film’s emotional situations are effective, especially as Bob faces grief and Grace considers what her transplant means. It is not presented as an extraordinary film, but it is more thoughtful and distinctive than many romantic comedies.

The Worldview

RETURN TO ME presents love as something deeper than attraction. Bob is concerned with Grace’s inner beauty rather than her surgical scar, and their relationship is based on true love and good moral character. The film also takes grief seriously, showing Bob’s difficulty moving forward and Grace’s awareness that her life came through another person’s death.

The movie includes mentions of “God’s blessing” during emotional turmoil, and a character asks, “What was God thinking?” These references place the story’s suffering and hope in a spiritual frame, though the film’s central focus remains romantic love and personal healing rather than a fully developed Christian understanding of God.

The story’s longing is for healing after loss and for love that can endure painful circumstances. Scripture offers this comfort: “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
