SUPERINTELLIGENCE
Funny and heartwarming, but adults should watch with discernment.
Should You Watch It?
SUPERINTELLIGENCE has real charm. Its lighthearted comedy includes many funny, heartwarming moments, and Melissa McCarthy gives one of her most appealing performances as Carol. Bobby Cannavale is sweet as Carol’s genial boyfriend, George. The story also reaches toward sacrificial love as a force that can save the day.
The cost is significant for a family audience. The movie includes many gratuitous OMG profanities, an implied bedroom scene, and dialogue favoring moral relativism and communism. One troubling comment about right and wrong is disputed by Carol, which gives the moment some moral resistance but does not remove the concern.
Because the movie is already streaming, watch it at home only if you are a discerning adult prepared to discuss its content and ideas.
The Story
NO SPOILERS — WE KEEP THE SURPRISESCarol Peters has left the rat race to work several nonprofit jobs. After someone calls her “literally the most average person on Earth,” a newly self-aware Artificial Intelligence chooses her as its subject.
The AI can control every electronic device with a microchip, but it does not understand humanity. Carol has three days to help it decide whether mankind should be saved, enslaved, or destroyed. Her task becomes tied to reconnecting with her ex-boyfriend, George, while governments work to isolate and destroy the supercomputer.
Is It Any Good?
Three stars means a good comedy with clear strengths and notable problems. SUPERINTELLIGENCE delivers many funny and heartwarming moments, and Melissa McCarthy makes Carol especially appealing. Bobby Cannavale brings a sweet performance to George.
The movie’s moral center also gives it some weight. Sacrificial love ultimately saves the day, providing a redemptive element beneath the comedy.
But the film is marred by many gratuitous OMG profanities, an implied bedroom scene, and politically correct comments favoring moral relativism, communism, and gender equality.
The Worldview
SUPERINTELLIGENCE presents a light redemptive, moral worldview. Sacrificial love saves the day, and one character says “Godspeed” to another person. Those elements point toward self-giving love and moral purpose.
The film also includes ideas that depart from a biblical view. The Artificial Intelligence says that right and wrong are an “artificial social construct” invented by “hairless monkeys sitting around a waterhole.” Carol disagrees, which makes the comment less one-sided but does not make it sound. The movie also includes pro-communist dialogue about redistributing all resources, making everyone equal, instituting a “living wage,” and creating racial and gender equality. Its comments about gender equality are presented as politically correct rather than developed as a careful moral argument.
The film’s central longing is for humanity to be understood and saved through love. Scripture gives sacrificial love its clearest shape: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).

Talk About It
Questions for the drive home, the dinner table, or the youth group.
The Artificial Intelligence wants to decide whether humanity should be saved, enslaved, or destroyed. What does the Bible say about humanity’s value and God’s authority over life?
Genesis 1:27 · Psalm 139:13–16Carol disagrees with the claim that right and wrong are only an “artificial social construct.” Why does moral truth matter, and where does it come from?
Isaiah 5:20 · Micah 6:8The film presents sacrificial love as powerful enough to save the day. How is that idea both reflected and fulfilled in Jesus’ sacrifice?
John 15:13 · Romans 5:8The movie includes dialogue about making everyone equal by redistributing all resources. How can Christians pursue justice while also honoring responsibility and liberty?
Acts 2:44–45 · 2 Thessalonians 3:10The Final Word
SUPERINTELLIGENCE offers appealing performances, funny moments, and a redemptive emphasis on sacrificial love. But its profanity, implied sexual content, and troubling worldview ideas make it unsuitable for children and young teens. For discerning adults, watch it at home and discuss it thoughtfully: WAIT FOR HOME — ADULTS ONLY. For other family options, see.
