Candace Cameron Bure was inspired to do SPECIAL FORCES: WORLD’S TOUGHEST TEST after she saw Olympian Shawn Johnson East win on Season 4.
“I really love physical fitness, and I’m a very competitive person,” Bure admitted to TV Insider. “I actually was offered this show a few seasons ago, and I passed, ultimately out of fear.”
But she’s prioritized fitness the last year and a half, so when they asked again, she was ready but still a little hesitant. Johnson East was the first person she called.
“She told me immediately, ‘You’ve got to do it. You should do it.’ And the conversations that I had with her were the most impactful in my decision to say yes to the show because she had nothing but positive things to say about it,” Bure said.
Bure already filmed the show, which premieres this fall. Her family was very supportive of her decision, but her husband, Val Bure, did question whether it was a good idea.
“’If you want to do this, you feel like this is something for you…’ He’s like, ‘Absolutely. Whatever it takes, whatever you want to do.’ So they all prayed for me a lot. I know they were praying every day that I was gone, and that meant so much to me,” she said.

Other contestants on the show include NASHVILLE alum Oliver Hudson, NBA champ Matt Barnes, BAYWATCH star David Charvet, world champion boxer Alycia Bumgarder, REAL HOUSEWIFE Brandi Glanville, Kyle Richards’ ex Mauricio Umansky and their daughter Alexia, former politician and felon George Santos, BATWOMAN’s Ruby Rose, JON & KAT PLUS 8’s Collin Gosselin and more, TV Line said.
On Instagram, Bure shared a post about the show, saying, “I can’t wait to go on this adventure with everyone 👊🏼. Gearing up for September 24th!! @foxtv @realityclubfox”
Santos recently took to X to defend unkind comments made about him, Bure and Glanville.
He said, “To all the haters talking about me being fat, or @BrandiGlanville skin and wishing ill on @candacecbure amongst the other mean horrible things in the comment section…You could not walk a day in any of our shoes…we are humans, we put ourselves out there and we have thick skin, now I can handle banter, but vicious vile mean comments are uncalled for…go step on grass and then watch us all thrive taking on an insane challenge.”
SPECIAL FORCES Season 5 is set in a Malaysian jungle.
The season’s synopsis reads: “Recruits must adapt to uncomfortable conditions, unpredictable terrain and harsh jungle warfare tasks, including a claustrophobic, high-pressure search of an underground bunker to find crucial military weapons; a supply load retrieval while suspended 300 feet above the jungle floor; endure a barrage of chemical gassing while retrieving coordinates of an enemy vessel; and much more.”
Bure’s fans can’t wait to watch her take on the challenge.
